Pesto alla Genovese is a speciality from the Italian city of Genoa. This pesto, traditionally used for pasta dishes, is characteristic for this city. The lovely rich herby flavour of the basil is combined with cheese, which produces the umami effect. With the addition of coarsely chopped pine nuts, this pesto gives any dish an Italian twist.
